The mid-sized crossover sport utility vehicle from General Motors Corporation, GMC Terrain was first introduced at New York International Auto Show in 2009. It was released as a replacement to Pontiac Torrent.
First Generation (2009-Present)
The GMC Terrain shares its basic design with Chevrolet Equinox. The predecessor model to the Terrain was GMC Envoy. The four-door SUV is offered in either four wheel drive or in front wheel drive. It is designed and produced based on the General Motor’s Theta platform.
The standard engine to the GMC Terrain model include a 2.4 liter I-4 version that produces power up to 182 hp, while it offers 3.0 liter V6 engine as optional, which delivers 264 hp of power. The sole transmission available to the engine include 6-speed automatic. With the V6 engine, the SUV model can achieve fuel economy of 24 mpg in the city premises and 28 mpg on the highway roads.
As far as the exterior dimensions of the GMC Terrain model are concerned, it has the wheel base of 112.5 inches, width of 72.8 inches, length of 185.6 inches and height of 66.3 inches. The 2009 GMC Terrain model is related to Suzuki XL7, Chevrolet Equinox, Saab 9-4X, and Saturn Vue.
The GMC Terrain is the first 5-passenger crossover SUV model produced by General Motors. It is offered in two trim versions, the base model SLE and up-level SLT.
The standard features in all the GMC Terrain models include DVD entertainment system, rear view camera, 40GB hard drive for storing picture and music files. The best buy vehicles apart from Terrain model include Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Volkswagen Tiguan and Suzuki Grand Vitara.
